Study Reveals Sleep Plays a Huge Role in Cocaine Addiction Rehab

Sleep is a key factor in cocaine addiction rehab according to a Toronto clinic and a brand new clinical study.

1000 Islands Addiction Rehab has welcomed the results of a study on sleep deprived mice to try to understand how cocaine impacts sleep and how sleep deprivation impacts the addiction.

According to new research, too little sleep can increase the rewarding impact of cocaine on a user. The study, which was published in eNeuro, showed that cocaine use caused serious disruption to sleep and poor sleep patterns, increased the likelihood of a relapse.

A spokesman form 1000 Islands Addiction Rehab said: “Disrupted sleep is a common symptom of cocaine abuse. Helping people to return to a good sleep pattern is a key part of our treatment regime.

“It is amazing how having well rested patients can contribute so significantly to their recovery and now we know for sure that it will help to prevent a relapse.

“We still don’t know for sure how sleep deprivation contributes to cocaine addiction, but this is a helpful study and it helps us to explain the importance of good sleep to our patients and their support network.

“In-house rehab support is how we can really help with cocaine addiction rehab. Our team of doctors and nurse will help our patients to be as comfortable as possible during their stay, from the initial medical detox and beyond. We can even use medication to help them get through the worst of the detox side effects, and that can help to keep them calm and help them sleep.

1000 Islands Addiction Rehab is an addiction rehab center in Thousand Islands on the Canadian and US border. It offers patients support with their addiction rehab, including alcohol, drugs and prescription medicines. They offer tailor-made in-patient and outpatient programs, with support from a team of doctors, nurses, counsellors, nutritionists and fitness experts.

The spokesman added: “Nutrition and exercise will also play a key role in helping with a patient’s sleep patterns. Eating the right foods at the right time of the day – like low sugar and processed carbs and lots of good quality protein and vegetables, will contribute to good sleep cycles. Helping patients to undertake regular exercise is brilliant to improve sleep. Activities like yoga and meditation are also excellent for helping to calm and relax patients, which will also help with sleep.

“If someone can use meditation and relaxation methods before bed, it will help to eliminate stress and anxiety, focus on something other than their addiction and put them in a calm and relaxed state before bed. This will help them to get to sleep and they are methods that can be used if they do wake up in the night too to get them back to sleep. Every little thing we can do to make our patients feel calm and relaxed throughout their stay with us will all contribute to a more successful outcome in their rehab treatment,” he added.
