Kara Zmatiq has been headlining special events, weddings, and corporate events for more than a decade. They even wowed the audience and judges on Australia’s Got Talent.

Kara Zmatiq (as in “charismatic”) has been wowing audiences for more than 10 years as Australia’s best live-singing drag queen. They have been called glamorous, witty, and wildly talented, and their unique performances create memorable experiences that keep people talking.

Kara is best known for their stellar performances on Australia’s Got Talent, in which they received a standing ovation from the audience and judges. They fill their joyous, uplifting shows with glitz and glamour, dazzling costumes, and show-stopping, powerhouse vocals. They don a pink and purple wig at every performance in honor of their grandmother, who passed away from cancer.

A leading headliner, Kara has brought their one-of-a-kind act to weddings, corporate meetings, and other special events across Australia. In addition, they have shared tour and television stages with celebrities such as Sophie Monk, Eddie Perfect, Kelly Osbourne, Dave Hughes, and Ian “Dicko” Dickson.

“As a live-singing gender illusionist, it’s my mission to entertain, enthrall, excite, engage, and evoke emotions from each person in the audience,” they said.

Kara also released a debut single called “QUEEN,” which reflects on their journey from a young gay boy to diving headfirst into the deep end of Sydney’s gay scene, as well as the challenges they faced along the way. In addition, they have produced eight cabaret circus shows that tour throughout Australia. Each featured diverse circus and dance performers from around the world, honoring Kara’s commitment to supporting and showcasing emerging talent.

Through their work, Kara has raised more than $50,000 for LGBTQI communities in Australia to support AIDS research and youth organizations focused on helping queer kids navigate the world. In addition, they are an advocate for Parents & Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) Australia, marching as their ambassador in the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Organization.

The Man Behind Kara Zmatiq

Kara Zmatiq is the alter-ego of Braeden Rhys, an award-winning marketing specialist and entrepreneur. Rhys founded and internationally manages several boutique marketing agencies including Axis Global Co and was named one of Australia’s Top 100 Entrepreneurs.

Growing up, Rhys was a musical wunderkind who could play multiple instruments by sound, but he couldn’t read sheet music. So, nearing his final year exams, he chose to sing instead. He aced his exams and was selected to perform at a HICES Musical Festival at the Sydney Opera House. Rhys spent the next several years performing as himself in community and musical theater and cabaret productions. He also performed at weddings and other private events.

“I developed a genuine passion for music,” he said. “I absolutely loved it, but I was looking for my niche, something that would really make me stand out and give me my brand.”

Fate intervened in 2012 when Rhys was with friends at the Stonewall Hotel, Sydney’s iconic drag club. He saw his first drag show and was hooked. After talking with the performers, he picked up a makeup brush, got some stage costumes, and began his drag career as Kara Zmatiq.

Rhys started with lip-syncing gigs at Stonewall and some other theater restaurants in Sydney, but he soon realized miming wasn’t for him. He began singing live on stage, and Kara Zmatiq remains one of Australia’s only live-singing drag queens.

Conclusion

Kara Zmatiq is Australia’s leading live-singing drag queen. Their live performances are ideal for weddings, corporate events, private functions as well music festivals, television and radio where hosts and producers want to create a truly memorable experience.
