Heather Cooan is a functional nutrition consultant and educator helping women suffering from autoimmunity and chronic illness take control and recover their health through education, data-driven nutritional therapy and strategic lifestyle design. She aims to help women manage their healing, preserve the integrity of their bodies and live life on their terms.
Cooan suffered from vulvar cancer, Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, and lichen sclerosus. She used a food-as-medicine approach alongside integrative clinical treatment to heal herself. She has learned so much through her personal healing journey and is now paying it forward by helping others heal themselves with functional nutrition consulting and lifestyle design services.
Aside from recovering her health from vulvar cancer, Hashimoto’s, and lichen sclerosus, Cooan was also able to reverse her estrogen dominance, insulin resistance, arteriosclerosis, and fatty liver. She consulted with a naturopathic oncologist and her primary care naturopath. Together, Cooan and her team put together a complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) treatment protocol.
After following a therapeutic ketogenic diet, an intense supplementation protocol and undergoing intravenous nutrient therapy and hyperbaric oxygen therapy, Cooan was declared cancer-free in February of 2018. She has been working to maintain and optimize her newfound health ever since.
Cooan is passionate about informed consent, bodily autonomy and healthcare authorship. She is on a mission to educate the world about the power of nutrition and lifestyle in health optimization.
Cooan uses a Functional Diagnostic Nutrition (FDN) approach, utilizing self-directed functional lab work and clinical correlation to symptoms to uncover the root causes of dysfunction in the body. Rather than simply chasing symptoms in an endless cycle of trial and error, Cooan helps clients understand why those symptoms are happening in the first place. Guiding clients through customized diet and lifestyle programs to recover their health and learn to manage their chronic illness for a lifetime.
Cooan’s Free Consultation offers up to 45 minutes of discussion via video call, where the client and Cooan have the time to get to know each other and see if it makes sense to work together.
Her website (heathercooan.com) also provides visitors with recipes centered around the three principles of nutrition that Cooan believes to be universal: whole food, proper preparation, and nutrient density. She develops these recipes for the health-conscious individuals who follow her journey and get inspiration from her work as well as her clients.
Disclaimer for Cancer Patients: Cooan does not consult on cancer treatment as she is not a licensed medical professional. She is a functional diagnostic nutrition and nutrition therapy practitioner in training. Her services are reserved for people interested in working with her on nutrition and lifestyle changes to holistically recover their health, not treating anything specifically and treating everything non-specifically.
